Fresku, the stage name of Roy Reymound, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and distinctive voices in Dutch hip-hop. Raised between Eindhoven and Curaçao, he developed a unique perspective on identity, heritage and society, themes that continue to shape his music. With his sharp lyricism, emotional honesty and unmistakable sense of humour, Fresku has connected with audiences since his breakthrough. His career took off in 2008 with Brief Aan Kees, an open letter to Top Notch founder Kees de Koning. The track quickly earned him a record deal and marked the beginning of an acclaimed career. Albums including Fresku, Maskerade, Nooit Meer Terug, In De Lucht and Leren Leven have been praised for their honesty, social commentary and exceptional storytelling. Beyond music, Fresku has established himself as an actor, comedian and theatre maker. Together with director Teemong, he reached millions through iconic characters such as Gino Pietermaai and Willy Keurig. Festival appearances, sold-out shows and successful theatre productions have cemented his reputation as one of the Netherlands’ most versatile performers. Fresku continues to evolve creatively. His 2024 album Leren Leven was widely acclaimed and earned him his first Edison Pop Award for Best Hip-Hop Album. Through new music, his Baranka Music label and ambitious projects such as his collaboration with the Metropole Orchestra, he keeps pushing artistic boundaries. Combining humour with vulnerability and self-reflection with social critique, Fresku remains one of the most authentic storytellers in Dutch music.
