Rens Ottema, better known as Ares, is a Dutch rapper. Ares was born in Oosterhout and later grew up in Raamsdonk in North-Brabant. His love for hip-hop started at the age of thirteen after watching a clip of The Opposites. He then bought the album 'De fik er in'. Big2 from The Opposites explained online via video how to make a beat. Not so long later Ares bought a computer to produce beats that he would later use to rap on with friends.
In 2012, Ares entered 101Barz's new talent show The Next MC. He reached the final but lost to rapper D-Double. Despite this, he has put himself on the map and released his music video 'Blues'. In 2013 he released the song 'Rainbow' together with producer Dennis Westerhout. The song received positive feedback. He got more bookings and signed a contract with label Top Notch. A year later he was on the main stage of the Appelsap hip-hop festival in Amsterdam.
In the following years he released several successful albums. For example, the hiphop-collective New Wave released the album with the same name. His albums Prins, Alice, Lotus and Wavyman: Live from Mars were released. He also has his own independent record label 162 records where he has been releasing his music ever since.
