Biography - Café d'Anvers
Café d'Anvers is one of the most iconic nightclubs in the history of Belgium's electronic music scene. Since opening its doors in 1989, the Antwerp club at Verversrui has become an internationally renowned destination for house and techno. Housed in a historic building with roots dating back to the 16th century, Café d'Anvers provided the backdrop for three decades of legendary club nights and played a defining role in the evolution of Belgian dance music culture.
From 1991 onwards, under the direction of Pim de Rhoodes, Café d'Anvers established itself as a must-visit venue for electronic music lovers. Resident DJs and international artists including Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier, Luciano, Jamie Jones and Marco Carola all performed behind its decks. The club appeared in DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs for five consecutive years, hosted the Belgian residencies of CircoLoco and Cocoon, and curated its own stage at Tomorrowland. In doing so, Café d'Anvers cemented its reputation as one of Belgium's most influential clubs.
Although the club closed its doors in 2019, its legacy lives on. Today, the Café d'Anvers team continues to organise club nights, open-air events and festivals, carrying the venue's unmistakable atmosphere and musical vision forward for a new generation of house, techno and electronic music fans.
