Fontaines D.C. to play Ziggo Dome for their biggest show in the Netherlands ever
Following two AFAS Live shows in 2024 that sold out in no time and a successful headline show at Lowlands 2025, the Ziggo Dome is a logical next step for the five-piece from Dublin. The occasion for their biggest headline show on Dutch soil is the new album Dopamine Chamber, which will be released on 16 October. The twenty-show arena tour starts in Lisbon on 21 October and ends in London on 27 November, with an Amsterdam show on 10 November. The first single Marianne has already been well received and is this week’s Megahit on 3FM. It is the post-punk band’s fourth Megahit since they made their debut in 2019 with debut album Dogrel.
Irish identity
The five members of Fontaines D.C met at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Dublin. A mission to form a punk version of The Beatles led to the creation of Fontaines D.C. in 2014, with D.C. standing for Dublin City. The band made their debut in 2019 with Dogrel. The title refers to doggerel, the term for Irish working-class poetry. Their raw post-punk, featuring strong melodies, lyrics about Dublin and Irish identity, and influences from indie and alternative rock, received worldwide acclaim and earned them a gold record in their home country.
Continuous development
On the subsequent albums A Hero’s Death (2020), Skinty Fia (2022) and Romance (2024), the five-piece explored the possibilities of their sound. Each album showed further development and sounded different from the one before it. This led to major success, with every album reaching the upper regions of international charts. Romance, for example, went platinum in the UK. The band also enjoyed success on stage, with several international tours featuring sold-out performances and shows at the biggest festivals. With every release, the band took another step up.
Dopamine Chamber
On Dopamine Chamber, the band takes the next step in their development together with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Geese, Florence and the Machine), as demonstrated by first single Marianne. The album marks a move away from the guitar-driven style of their earlier records towards their most seductive music to date. “The album is a dopamine chamber,” says singer Grian Chatten. “You step inside and we test these different consciousness- or mood-altering pieces of music on you.” Just as they will during their biggest headline show on Dutch soil, on Tuesday 10 November 2026 at the Ziggo Dome.
