Maître Gims (now often simply called Gims) is a Congolese-French singer, rapper, and songwriter. He was born as Gandhi Alimasi Djuna on May 6, 1986, in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo). When he was two years old, his family moved to France, where he grew up and began his music career.
Gims first became known as a member of the French hip-hop group Sexion d’Assaut, a successful rap group in the 2000s and early 2010s. In 2013 he started a solo career with the album Subliminal, which sold more than one million copies and produced hits such as “Bella” and “J’me tire”.
He later released successful albums such as Mon cœur avait raison (2015) and Ceinture noire (2018). His music combines styles such as hip-hop, pop, R&B, and Afropop. He has also collaborated with international artists such as Sia, Lil Wayne, Maluma, Stromae, and Sting.
Thanks to his unique voice, recognizable sunglasses image, and major hits, Gims has become one of the most famous French-speaking artists in the world. He has sold millions of records and filled major concert venues, including the Stade de France.
