Theater Box is a small-scale and atmospheric theatre in the heart of Ghent, hidden within a charming city garden near Dampoort. Since opening its doors in 2013, the venue has grown into a creative meeting place for theatre makers, performers and culture lovers. With room for 53 spectators, Theater Box offers an intimate setting where audiences and artists connect up close.
The theatre was founded by Paul Ooghe and Katrijn Govaert as a permanent home base for their companies Deezillusie vzw, Improcessie and Kleine Prettige Stoornis. Later, resident company BRT also joined Theater Box. In addition to its own productions, the venue welcomes external companies for rehearsals, performances, workshops and creative projects.
Through initiatives such as the Box Festival and a strong focus on experimentation, connection and artistic freedom, Theater Box has become an inspiring place where emerging creators take their first steps and experienced artists can develop new ideas. Thanks to its unique location and warm atmosphere, Theater Box has become a special venue within Ghent’s theatre scene.
