A feast of recognition for every (former) villager
An ode to the village of yesteryear. Friso Wiegersma already described it in his famous song ‘Het dorp’, performed by Wim Sonneveld: the village of the past is no more. Wim Daniëls went in search of that former village, the village before 1970. He writes about typical village characters such as the blacksmith, the farmer, and the small grocer, but also about the sandy road running through the corn, the village pub, the village dramas, village politics, and other typical village phenomena and affairs. He ultimately concludes that the village is not dead, but that it has changed out of necessity. The result is a beautiful biography of the village of yesteryear and now – a feast of recognition for every (former) villager.
