The American psychedelic soul band Black Pumas was founded in late 2017 by street musician Eric Burton and guitarist Adrian Quesada. An unusual, unplanned acquaintance, in which Burton sang to Quesada on the phone, quickly turned into a success story. Black Pumas does not just want to bring the soul of the seventies back to life with their music, but also want to show the influence of hip-hop. A real “James Brown meets Wu-Tang Clan”. The soft but raw soul voice of Burton is a special combination with the psychedelic guitar playing of Quesada.
In June 2019, Black Pumas released their critically acclaimed debut album of the same name. With this they managed to prove that the sound of the live shows also come across well on the record. The debut album was also very successful in the Netherlands. The NRC calls them "the hottest soul band of the moment". Het Parool also called the album "overwhelming" and "an album you want to listen to over and over again". In November, Black Pumas was a guest at De Wereld Draait Door, where they played their biggest hit 'Colors'. That performance led to their breakthrough with the Dutch public. The band sold a total of more than 6000 tickets in less than 6 months for their shows in the Dutch pop venues. Every show the band brings with it a fantastic energy and knows how to take the audience into it again and again.
