Pete Philly & Perquisite is a Dutch hip-hop duo. Jazzy hip-hop, soulful vibes, broken beats; with the legendary album Mindstate, songwriter Pete Philly and composer/producer Perquisite traveled the world in 2005. In 1996 Perquisite starts making hip-hop beats. Due to his classical background, he also adds classical elements to his creations. Pete Philly has been active in the music world for several years as an English-speaking MC. For example, he is in the groups Nicotine and Gotcha! and thus performs at festivals such as Mysteryland and North Sea Jazz. He made a name for himself through his energetic live performances and freestyle qualities and participated in the Big Prize of the Netherlands in 2002, where he won the Muzikantenprijs. In the fall of 2002, the two get to know each other. They decided to work together and released the Mindstate EP in 2004.
In 2007 the second album Mystery Repeats will be released, of which 'Time Flies' and the title track become big hits. The album is full of musical beauty; summery, warm and accompanied by velvet parts of trumpets, flutes and flamenco guitars.
With their danceable beats, sultry horns and melodic raps and vocal lines, Pete Philly & Perquisite have received a lot of praise both nationally and internationally. Among other things, a Silver Harp and the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts end up in the trophy cabinet. They also flourish on stage. The duo travels the world with their band and plays at major festivals such as Lowlands, North Sea Jazz, Sziget in Hungary, Exit in Serbia, SXSW in the US. and the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in South Africa. In 2009, after a collaboration of six years, the duo decides to continue separately, which is celebrated with a last farewell tour through the Netherlands.
Fourteen years after Pete Philly & Perquisite parted ways, and with years of both following successful solo paths, they are poised for a glorious return to the source. Right where the fans wanted to see them most: on stage.
