Rock am Ring is an annual music festival on the Nürburgring near Adenau in the Eifel (Germany). Every year the festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors for several performances. The festival lasts three days and there are several campsites around the site.
The start of Rock am Ring dates back to 1985. The intention was to organize the event once, but due to the large turnout of about 75,000 spectators, the organizers decided to make it a recurring festival. After the festival's low visitor numbers in 1988, a two-year break was taken. Since 1991, Rock Am Ring has been Germany's largest rock festival. Since 1997, the Rock im Park festival in Nuremberg has been organized simultaneously. Most artists perform at Rock am Ring, also stage at Rock im Park.
Over the years, several well-known artists have performed at the rock festival. This is how it started with U2, REO Speedwagon and Joe Cocker, among others. The Cure, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Pearl Jam, Def Leppard, Radiohead, Metallica and Rage Against the Machine have also played at the festival.
